When I became president in 2022, I began a new tradition by recording a video message each month. I pack the videos with information about upcoming club events, contests, opportunities, and my gratitude to the volunteers and members who embody our mission: “Writers Helping Writers.”
I am proud to be the President of the Redwood Writers Club. We have 200+ members, making our chapter the largest in the network of California Writers. My job is to support the members and lead by encouraging ideas, allowing many people to contribute, and innovation when it makes for a better, stronger, and more vibrant club.
My love of video prompted me to change the delivery of my monthly message to members from text in our newsletter to video.
Redwood is a great group if you are new to writing and if you are an author with a series or two of books. The beauty of the club is inclusion, fun, networking, and learning.
In December, we will have a literary-themed costume party along with our regular meeting. You can see me with Crissi Langwell in our costumes in 2022.
The Red Queen inspired my fanciful costume. She is a character from Alice Through the Looking Glass, with a nod to the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. A profusion of hearts on my costume, curls for my wig, it was all in good fun. Although the two queens are different in temperament and appearance, and many people conflate them into one character, they are quite disparate.
My costume for 2023 is another creative design and I’ll post photos after the contest.
